Mel Brooks Blazes away at the Frankenstein myth as he had done with the Western with his farcical Blazing Saddles. The humour is largely infantile as one has come to expect from Brooks but the film has numerous things going for it which ultimately save the day. The cinematography beautifully evokes memories of a Gothic era at its most striking. The music is also suitably over dramatic. There is a memorable performance by Madeleine Kahn and an enthusiastic one by Marty Feldman as Eyegore. It's all pretty enjoyable farcical nonsense - rather elemental but appealing and reasonably appealing given the right circumstances and inebriation. Otherwise its just a little to infantile to take for two hours at a stretch.
