A twisted, warped carnival waltz accompanies the titles…..cheerful, yet demented; lilting yet cold and soulless. One is about to enter a surreal world of madness, hysteria, despair, guilt and above all, a world inhabited by the darkest insanity and horror.
George Franju has crafted one of the most masterful horror films of all time - it is both haunting and repellent - quite exquisitely shot in stark shimmering shades of black and white with one of the more memorable soundtracks in horror history, Eyes Without a Face remains a potent force and a masterpiece of macabre cinema. The plot
involves a brilliant surgeon's increasingly desperate efforts
to restore the beauty of his disfigured daughter with skin grafts.
The film is a fantastic vision - frightening, vile yet with
a surreal, compelling dreamlike quality, or should one say nightmare.
Without much doubt a huge horror classic.
