It doesn't come as a major surprise to discover that among his countless movies, Vincent Price considered this to be the very finest of all as well as his greatest performance. Small wonder, therefore that Theatre of Blood is an outrageous horror camp classic boasting a performance by Price worthy of any number of awards. Tongue is firmly in cheek here as Price's horrifying shenanigans begin with a series of horrendous Shakespearean deaths of the most insane kind. The cast appear to be having a ball while Price wreaks havoc; butchering, beheading, disemboweling, garroting with delightful glee. His real life wife Carol Browne is saved the most fantastic death of all - electrocuted white having her hair made-over! Price as the hairdresser Butch in this particular scene is the man at his superlative best - sheer genius. The man has never had a finer showcase to display his phenomenal talents. Laughs and shocks abound thick and fast throughout this fabulous classic. This film is a masterly fusion of camp, the macabre, Shakespeare and blood drenched horror - one of the great horror films of the modern era that satisfies on various levels. No wonder Price will forever be remembered as the master of Campy horror. Long Live the King!
