One of the best of it's kind - a compendium of chilling short stories with the usual killer ending. It's from the vintage EC comics that also inspired Creepshow yet, Crypt is a far superior effort than the big budget Creepshow. The episodes are, with the exception of one story, exceptionally effective and potent.
The first featuring a murderous Joan Collins and a not so friendly Santa Claus is a classic as is the tale featuring Peter Cushing as Grimsdyke - the man who returns from his grave to exact revenge on his tormentors. This one is a fabulous frightener with the memorable Valentine's Card….."you were cruel and mean from the start, Now you really have no heart". No prizes for guessing what lumpy, fleshy body part is enclosed with the card! Finally there is a wonderfully chilling tale about a callous warden at a Home for the Blind where his inhumane attitude lead him to a most horrifying end. Tales from the Crypt has recently been reissued by Fox after years of being unavailable. IT deserves to be enjoyed by a much wider audience and a new generation or two. We reckon it's second only to "Dead of Night" as per short story horror anthologies are concerned. Ralph Richardson makes a mighty daunting Crypt Keeper who you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley or anywhere else for that matter.
