The film follows the fearless sailor Jason who returns to the Kingdom of Thessaly after a 20 year gap in order to reclaim the throne that was usurped when the evil Polias slayed his Grandfather. Tricked and sent on a voyage in search of the magical golden fleece, Jason and his brave crew must overcome incredible obstacles if he is ever to have a chance to avenge his family's name, reclaim the throne and bring lost prosperity and wealth to his people. This entertaining, Greek mythological adventure is wonderful Sunday afternoon viewing. The performances are bright and spunky particularly from the extremely jovial Hercules and the statuesque beauty Medea. But the film's real star is special effects wizard Ray Harryheuasen who literally brings to life the creatures in the film. In fact the sequences are so good that if anything the films flags in anticipation of Harryheausen's wonderfully stop motioned set pieces. Considering that the film was made over 35 years ago the effects are amazing, culminating in the stunning 'skeleton' sequence which even today will give CGI effects a good run for their money. Great fun all the way.
