. The Florida Everglades are besieged by a group of overgrown leeches. In fact later we are led to believe that the use of atomic power in nearby Cape Canaveral may be responsible for the mutation of the species. But in the meantime the leeches proceed to decimate the alligator population and then take a liking to human prey. The unfortunate victims are captured and 'stored' in an underwater cavern. Whenever the leeches feel those hunger pangs coming on they suck some blood from their 'human snacks'.

Meanwhile the local doctor and a Forestry official try and unravel the mystery. Not as good as the title suggests and showing its limited budget Giant Leeches is enlivened by a few Leech attack scenes. But sadly these are few and far between and we in fact see little of the creatures. The hero is suitably rugged, muscle bound and wooden. The female lead is disappointing and is overshadowed by the fetching Yvette Vickers who plays the two timing wife of a local shopkeeper. The people under the leech costumes however deserve more recognition then they obviously received!
