The third installment in the Friday the 13th series follows an enormous downward spiral in all respects - not that part 2 was an historic achievement either. So much attention was being paid to the 3D effects that the scriptwriters forgot that they were primary supposed to be creating a scary slasher film. There is no tension to speak of, no scares at all. The handful of characters are assembled only to be disposed of in an increasingly inane manner not that the audience is least concerned. There is no character development at all and therefor one doesn't sympathize with any of the victims or feel any sense of involvement. The only memorable moments are a tiny reprisal by Betsy Palmer who is as ever, riveting and also this is the film in which Jason first dons his historic hockey mask! Please note that when stabbed in the left leg - it is the right one that ends up being injured! note also that Jason's bad right eye makes a miraculous recovery and note also that Mrs. Voorhees's head appears to be detachable at convenience! The Besty Palmer touch of class is sadly missing and the void felt with each passing Friday. This one boasts the sublimely tacky disco theme along with the titles... naff! To think that the same director responsible for this shite went on to direct the wonderful H20 as well as the great Lake Placid. Surely the most sorry and inept of all the Friday films, and that's a fair achievement.
