It had to happen, indeed took a long time coming……a teen take on the wildly successful Fatal Attraction theme. So, with Fear we have the scenario where young love turns terribly sour and psychotic. Reese Witherspoon is infatuated by handsome and outwardly "nice guy" Wahlberg who hits all the right buttons, quite literally, and has Reese and her mommy eating out of his hands. Protective daddy Petersen has his doubts about Mr. Clean Wahlberg and ultimately gets proved right as Marky Mark turns out to be king honcho of a very dubious gang of degenerates.

Then the film turns from Fatal Attraction to Straw Dogs territory as the besieged family come to a confrontation with the psychotic boyfriend from hell. It's a reasonably enjoyable and mildly suspenseful entertainer for when you've got nothing better to do. It is slickly presented by director James Foley and the acting is reasonable. Wahlberg takes his hesitant step to rehabilitation after a couple of years out as the awful Marky Mark and does an ok if unspectacular job as the psychotic boyfriend. Reese Witherspoon is clearly going places.
