Hysterical
fusion of farcical slapstick and outrageous horror is a truly remarkable
feat. Completely madcap feast of comic book gore, its brilliantly
acted and directed. A winner all the way along other comic horror
gems like Army of Darkness.
This features possibly the best mother since dear old Mrs. Bates
of the Bates Motel.
Peter Jackson has put New Zealand firmly on the map as far as Cult cinema is concerned. This epic and the similar splatterfeast Bad Taste is enough to carve our a special niche for Peter Jackson. As if that wasn't enough, in this film he has introduced the amazingly brilliant Diana Penalver who is simply stunning as Baquita.Timothy Balme, our mother's boy of a nerd turned superhero is almost as good. But perhaps the best of a fantastic lot is Elizabeth Moody as the mother from hell and beyond! Dead Alive is a splatterfest classic, comic book horror with buckets full of blood and at least equal quantities of humour. Its one of the funniest films we have ever seen, up there with the very best. A screamer all the way! The best thing that has come from New Zealand since good old kiwi lamb chops.
