Coppola
really turns on the style and produces a sumptuous visual feast.
Would have been amazing had Cushing been there instead of Hopkins.
Poor Keanu Reeves is lamentable and Wynona Ryder's prissy British
accent grates after a short while. Rich and beautifully crafted
with an equally effective musical score. This is the most dazzlingly produced Dracula of them all, a fabulous montage on a par with some of the most dramatic visuals from his epic Apocalypse Now. An opulent and lavish treat with Gary Oldman providing a Dracula right up there with the best of them. Unfortunately the "good" side (Reeves, Hopkins and Ryder) are pathetically inept that there seems to be no crescendo, no climax, no challenge for the dark forces of evil. Once again its a case of cheering evil on against the insipid and dull forces of righteousness! Deliciously enjoyable all the same.
