Based on the evil Countess Bathory who bathed in the blood of young women (virgins preferably) to maintain her fading beauty! Typically campy hammer production dominated by an excellent Ingrid Pitt as the monstrous tyrant. She wasn't really a vampire so the connection to Dracula is only in that it was rumoured that she was a cousin of the infamous Vlad the Impaler AKA Dracula. Plenty of flesh on display along with gallons of Hammer's patented redder then red blood. Has to be said that this one is not up to scratch when compared with some of the great Hammer title's but its pretty saucy old fashioned fun all the same. Countess Dracula simply doesn't manage to create the famous Hammer atmosphere to the required level. However, Pitt's tour de force just about sustains proceedings. |
