A very
well portrayed and disturbing film brilliantly acted and directed.
Disturbing in that it depicts the worst danger lurking in the most
innocuous of worlds. Terrence Stamp is outstanding as the "Collector" and Samantha Eggar equally brilliant as the unfortunate "collected". Though this is a fictitious account, it manages to encapture the workings of a sick, psychotic, serial killer to be's mind quite superbly. Maybe that's the reason that Britain's most notorious serial killer, Dennis Nilsen, used to be so fascinated by the film - it probably offered him a reflection of himself in so many ways. William Wyler is best remembered for Ben-Hur though The Collector is as effective as anything he concocted during a long a distinguished career. The film overall is quite horrifying and also rather depressing, but excellent all the same.
