Weird, creepy British horror flic in the best Hammer tradition, though its NOT a Hammer. Intriguing goings on in a seedy traveling circus with a criminal plastic surgeon serenading as the proprietor of the carnival. A little reminiscent of George Franju's classic Eyes Without a Face, but a much seedier, version.
Diffring is excellent as the insane surgeon who carries out his twisted designs in the environs of a ramshackle, tacky traveling circus where his scarred beauties perform and thrill their captive audiences. But things start going horribly wrong and Diffring has to resort to a different kind of surgery to keep things in order. Shot in suitably gaudy colours and lighting of the circus, the film succeeds in capturing the sleaziness of such traveling circuses. Unmissable for those who enjoy the Hammer school of filmmaking.
