While the 80's were the era of the slasher, once in a while there was a welcome change of scenario. The Changeling is far more in the mould of the original Haunting than the more graphically oriented 80's stuff. Fairly effective overall with one or two genuinely creepy moments along the way. The story is about a bereaving composer who finds that his new country abode is haunted by the spirit of a tormented child. The plot thickens like a good porridge, but then ends up getting a little too thick and lumpy! There is perhaps one revelation too many at the end, but that aside, its an effectively creepy haunted house chiller with numerous eerie moments. The bit when the rubber ball arrives down the stairs, again, is quite brilliant.
