Vintage 50's sci-fi monster movie very much in the style of THEM! A couple of good-guy scientist types come across a mysteriously deserted town where the only people are dead people. After a lull which allows our blond hero enough time to woo the local zillionaires daughter before all sorts of mayhem is unleashed in the form of some dirty great big black scorpions. These nasty arachnids suddenly attack a small community with bestial blood-lusting savagery. The special effects are vintage 50's stuff with the scorpion looking like its slobbering in anticipation of its next meal. The drooling close-ups are more than a little unnerving as the creature closes in for the kill. Some of the scorpion sequences are very impressive especially as it picks up and tosses an Oldsmobile into a crater without breaking into a sweat. The film is so typical of the 50's sci-fi horror cycle it almost parodies itself at times yet it's the brilliant stop motion animation scenes designed by the creator of King Kong, and the drooling monstrosity that really do make the difference at the end of the day. Then the marvellous scene where our heroes come across the infested nest, it still looks pretty nasty! Vintage man vs monster movie - typical 50's creature feature.
