Classic
sci-fi featuring an all devouring Blob from outer space doubling
as a synonym for the Commie Red menace that so threatened to devour
the "free" world in the frightful 50's. Steve McQueen made his debut
in this one. The film may not be the most intellectually stimulating experience ever but it certainly goes down as being typical of an era and worthy of watching not only for a bit of a giggle and for Steven McQueen's debut role but also because it is representative of a sociopolitical era and a particular way of thinking - remember these were the McCarthy days and the Red Menace was seen to be swallowing up the entire world. Besides all that, it's a pretty fun hokey little horror movie on its own merit! Vintage stuff. ..... |
