Based
on true events and starring Tony Curtis. Serious approach and rather
studious look at the strangler case. Reasonably acted but rather
flatly directed resulting in a one dimensional feel and understanding
of the whole case. Uninspired and cliched in parts, it should have
been a taut, nailbiting thriller. Instead the focus is on how one
man can harbour two such murderous personalities and how a "regular
family man" can also be such a marauding demon. Far, far superior and truly chilling because of the accuracy of its depiction - and British Serial Killer, Dennis Nilsen's favourite movie - is William Wyler's The Collector. A superior analysis and portrayal altogether.
