Pasty faced and nattily attired Count Gustavo has an evening rendezvous with his busty girlfriend who is distraught because of his persistent refusal to meet her parents. Though madly in lust with the fanged Gustavo, she can’t understand his outright refusal to see her parents so that they can be married. Finally she tells him that unless he meets her increasingly inquisitive parents she shan’t be able to marry him and will instead have to follow her parents wishes by marrying the square but dependable Eduardo. The mysterious Gustavo refuses to budge on his stand against seeing the prospective in-laws and thus the beauty is forced to marry her other suitor much Gustavo’s disgust.

Dashing, nattily clad Gustavo - the first and only Argentine Vampire?

Just as the newlyweds are making out on their wedding night, a mysterious seagull is seen fluttering hastily to the scene with the sky having turned a startling deep crimson colour. Moments later a fanged Gustavo emerges with a long, sharp dagger and proceeds to ram it through Eduardo’s head! He then does his vampire thing on the blonde before carrying her off as his chosen one – his partner and fellow scavenger in the world of the undead. Somewhere else a group of fun loving, amorous, happy go lucky youngsters are on a trip to the mountains for a bit of skiing, go-go dancing, sex and sunshine. After jigging up with total abandon, even throwing off their clothes to really get things swinging the group head off for their destination only to find that their van breaks down in the middle of nowhere. They seek shelter in the only building they can spot; an old and seemingly abandoned house. A very strange housekeeper finally shows up and makes sure the group are comfortable in the rooms he has prepared for them.

That night Raul is seduced by a mysterious blonde bombshell that the audience recognizes as being Gustavo’s mistress of the night. However it seems she is in distress and she begs Raul to help her find release from her wretched condition. He helps her by making passionate love to her but when he awakens there is no sign of her. Sheepishly Raul returns to the part of the house his girlfriend and others were staying in but finds that they have all seemingly evaporated into thin air. The men carry out an extensive but unsuccessful search until several hours later when Raul is virtually giving up hope, Laura shows up looking dazed and drawn. She lapses into a coma like state having the occasional fit in between but doesn’t let on as to where the girls had been and where the other two missing girls still are.

A couple of nights later the same menacing seagull is spotted against the same blood-soaked sky heading towards Laura’s bedroom. Moments later Gustavo plunges his ghastly fangs into poor Laura’s neck after thoroughly checking out her bosom in the process. Raul is convinced as is Laura that she has become the victim of a vampire and he vows to protect her from Gustavo’s next deadly assault. Meanwhile the blonde bombshell has had enough of the tortured life as the roaming undead and she pleads with Gustavo to let her die a mortal death and be done with. When he refuses her, she grows ever more frustrated and promises to find a way to rid herself of his curse. The tension mounts as the blood red sky is spotted once again and the devilish seagull glides steadily towards Laura’s bedroom to deliver the killer blow that will turn her into the vampire’s latest deathly bride. Will the beautiful but cursed lady in white be able to break free of Gustavo’s clutches and achieve peace or will the ghastly caped vampire continue his reign of terror.

Events sort of lumber to a blood curdling climax when tables are turned in a shocking turn of events. The film is never too terrifying despite the flashes of fleeting if rather unconvincing gore, perhaps the most frightening aspect of the movie being the elongated scenes of topless go-go dancing and the close up shots of zitty teenagers sucking on each others lips! There is an ample amount of typical “euro-horror” style even though this is an Argentine film. The leisurely pacing, the amateurish acting, the cheap budget and the excessive nudity are all hallmarks of classic “euro-horror” and this film contains all these elements in abundance. Its really rather a nifty little oddity but despite the wild go-go dancing and the exhilarating, pushto movie style camera shots homing in on the crotch region – the sad thing is that the movie is really not at all frightening and not even remotely creepy.

There is atmosphere and charm, but it just doesn’t contain any sequences of genuine horror that one could savour or remember the film by. The image of the vampire seagull fluttering about in a blood-soaked sky is hardly enough to increase the pulse rate. A perfect movie to add to one’s collection of worldwide obscurities even if it is arguably the least memorable of the DVD’s released by the brilliant Mondo Macabro label thus far.
