Another Govinda starrer that sank without a trace. To some extent, one understands the horror of Akhiyon se goli maare, a film that was making for yonks and had the stale look of baasi roti to it. But Wah Tera kya kehna is a relatively new effort. Alarm bells must have been ringing through out as Raveena was supposed to have had a negative role in the film of which there is no evidence in this film., Quite clearly, this was not the film that it set out to be. Raj Oberoi is the much loved grandson of Grandpa (Shammi Kapoor). But, as a result of an accident, young and able Raj has been reduced to a stammering and “tutlaying” wreck. Surrounded by greedy uncles and aunts, this is a family that one has seen a zillion times before in so many films, not least Govinda films. However, there is Meena (Preeti Jhangiani) who still loves the moron even though her parents disapprove of the match..how can their daughter marry a moron? A flash back follows to show Raj and Meena romancing in Switzerland (where else) with pathetic stories of past paramours..coco and popo, supposedly to tickle your funny bone but so unfunny, you wish you could fast forward this rubbish. Raj drives off in anger after hearing of Meena’s past dalliance with Popo (all made up of course). Meena calls him on the mobile and tells him that its not true and Raj, whilst driving decides to take a u turn and drives straight into a truck. Moral of the story...don’t drive and speak on the mobile at the same time. Raj’s family manage to get Raj out of the way and he is sent away with Murari (Kader Khan) to a hill station whilst the nasty lot gang up and murder Grandpa. In the meantime, Raj decides to take a walk, having been told that Meena will not be joining him and wonder of wonders, from out of no where, there is a landslide of mud and Raj rolls off the screen. Murari then comes across a qawwal duo, Banne and Salma and is stunned to see that the man looks just like Raj (Surprise surprise). So in order to claim all the “jayidaat”, the qawwals return to the family fold to con the family out of the millions that have been left behind by murdered grand-pa. Oh Lord, to go on further is simply prolonging the pain of recounting this painful excuse for a film. There is not an original scene in the film and when the film wraps up at the end, you are left stunned at the insanity of the plot. Was it thought up as the scenes were shot. No one in their serious minds could come out with a film like this today...With the response that it has generated, it is clear that this rubbish may have worked once upon a time but there is just no place for it now. Imagine sitting through a film with a stammering Govinda...the less said the better. Banne Khan on the other hand provides nothing fresh as a character and this has been done so many times before by Govinda and much better too. Raveena Tandon hams. I do not see any allure in Preeti Jhangiani at all. She has most ordinary looks and has no charm or acting talent that one can discern from any of her films so far. I guess she thought grabbing a Govinda flick would catapult her to a bigger league. Ha ha ha. The music is awful
and one feels sad that Jatin Lalit have lost their lustre. There is
nothing melodious or even close to being a decent tune in this film.
The one song which stands out for its crassness and awfulness is “
I want Money” sung by Govinda. Those days are gone when Govinda
could tempt audiences with his “Meri pant bhi sexy” and
“gambler” type songs. No one is interested. This is a
hideously tedious film, one that should send alarm bells ringing in
Govinda’s big head. I had the misfortune of seeing two Govinda
starrers in one day..Akhiyon se goli maare and this effort...it was
more a horror festival than anything else. Its time to move onto to
greener pastures and not stick the proven formula..cos the formula
is now stale and has nothing more to offer. The question is, will
anyone give him a chance? |
