Mela Dharmesh Darshan's follow up to Raja Hindustani is a punchy and entertaining if not very original film. The story is a rehash of sholay and caravan although it certainly has no aspirations of trying to emulate the brilliance of the former or the exuberance of the latter. It tells the tale of a village, traumatised by the evil Gujjar Singh who murders the heroine Roopa's brother and then makes off with her. She escapes and comes across two friends who travel around the country in their truck and try their hand at nautankis. She makes it her mission to wreak revenge on Gujjar Singh and uses the two friends to fulfil her ambitions. The film is made on a huge canvas and is in essence a mass entertainer. The film is driven by the main character, that of Roopa and that is where the greatest flaw of the film lies. Twinkle is simply not up to the mark and exudes neither the charm nor the vulnerability required of the character. Her hysterical outbursts and strained expressions do not evoke great sympathy in the character and the two friends, Aamir khan and Faizal Khan act as props to propel the film along. That said and done, Aamir and Faizal khan are both good in their respective roles, which do not require very much effort. For a second film, Faizal Khan makes a decent impression if a little wooden at times. Aamir plays the fun character and plays it with gay abandon. The big letdown of the film is a very mediocre musical score. Although the songs are well shot, they simply pass muster and would not usually even demand a repeat hearing. Dekho 2000 zamana aa gaya is possibly the only tune which is worth a listen although the novelty wears off after a while. All in all, a bit of a let down from Dharmesh Dharshan but a film not to be taken seriously and enjoyed for what it is.
