LKLKBK is an out and out comedy, inspired by the Bette Midler film Ruthless People, pieced together with an ensemble cast which gels well together. It concerns three fairly useless individuals, all desperate to make some money. Prakash (Saif )is an out of work MBA graduate who sees his chance in Sapna (Sonali), the daughter of a rich businessman as his way forward in life. However, his father in law controls the business and treats him with utter disdain. Rahul (Fardeen Khan) and Hari (Aftab) are both unemployed, the former is in love with Twinkle and anxious to get a job, the latter only dreams of the good life. Rahul is offered a job but needs two lakhs to bribe his way into getting it definitely and also to marry his girl. Prakash wants to branch out on his own and needs money for that which his father in law refuses to give him. Hari simply wants to live it up. They all need money. So Rahul and Hari plot to rob their way to success and hold up Prakash. Prakash, with little money in his pockets, sees this an opportunity of enlisting the help of these supposedly underworld characters to execute his plan which concerns the kidnapping of his wife.

The boys turn up the next day to kidnap Sapna who puts up a fight but they manage to overpower her and hold her for ransom as per Prakash's plan. Having told his father in law about Sapna's kidnapping, Prakash sets about trying to get money out of his father in law but things don't quite go according to plan.

LKLKBK is a valiant effort at an out and out comedy but suffers from the director deviating from the plot and placing too much emphasis on the subplot of Aslam Bhai (Johny Lever). A comedy needs to move along at breakneck speed or then needs to be short in time. This film suffers on this count and the pace slackens to the extent of diluting the effect considerably. Slapstick comedy is an art and is difficult to do, the timing has to be perfect. Niwas does not achieve this and in fact, the second half of the film does drag a on. The dialogues are quite witty but don't come fast and furiously like they did in Hera Pheri and a clever script would have given the film a greater punch. Still, the film is somewhat held together by the lead performances. Saif plays it straight and plays it very well. Fardeen has the straightest of characters to play and the best lines are left to Aftab who actually is very good in this. Sonali playing the airhead has a short role but is moderately amusing. Twinkle has very little to do.

The music is so so but fits the feel of the film. Too many songs, mostly interrupting the flow rather than helping it along. Not great but perhaps worth catching on DVD on a lazy night in.
