This is a dinosaur of a movie, having been started ages ago and finally finding a release last week to no fanfare or even any publicity. Raja (Sanjay Kapoor) loves Nisha (Manisha) but is a two penny sadak chaap from Mumbai. Nirmal (Sanjay Kapoor again) is London returned step son of Navneet Nishan who returns to attend to some business before flying back to London. In his travels, he meets the tea picking busty belle (Mamta Kulkarni) who works in one of his plantations. The inevitable happens and he falls for the charms (?) of this buxom belle. All done in a hideously cliched and charmless manner.

You can imagine an Asha Parekh or Saira Banu getting up such antics in their hey day with a certain amount of charm but to see this tarty belle gyrating her ample busom in every which direction, you feel that this is simply an exercise in poor judgment and taste. Of course, Nirmal is blissfully unaware that he is surrounded by the usual mix of evil mamas, manager's and of course, lest you were in any doubt, the syrupy but actually viperfish step mother. Add to this melee, the corrupt Bheem Thapa (Raj Babbar) who has plotted with Raja to take Nirmal's place and dissipate his assets and wealth.

Nirmal discovers that his father was murdered and did not die as a result of an accident and sets about trying to resolve the mystery. As the scheming step mother had in fact murdered the father, she arranges for Nirmal's disposal as well. Much celebration takes place with the evil triumvirate rejoicing in Nirmal's demise, the evil step mother even mistreating her own daughter and having her sent onto a boarding school. However, the inevitable happens and "Nirmal" reappears to thwart all her evil plans. Of course, we know that this is Raja who is now plotting to do away with the estate and there follows a game of cat and mouse with the triumvirate of nasties. The rest of the film is spent with twists and turns, not unpredictable and not terribly interesting until "all is resolved".

This is a grotesque aberration of any of the old 70's Vinod Khanna B movies and it defies logic as to why a film such as this could and would be made today. The plot is fantastical, convoluted and full of the most cliched of clichés. However, that in itself is not a condemnation really because some of the most entertaining films are those with those precise "qualities", done with a certain style or then carried on the shoulders of an enterprising cast. Madan Mohla is the producer of this tripe but he also produced a preposterous but fantastically entertaining Amir Garib with Dev Anand and Hema Malini. Unfortunately, Sanjay Kapoor enacting the double role, has neither the personality nor the prowess to make this into an interesting or engaging affair.

One wonders why an intelligent actress like Manisha would do a film like this? This would have been made after the release of Bombay so it was not that she needed a film like this. She has all of two songs and three scenes in the film, appearing in what is actually a hilarious climax though not intentionally! And perhaps she was plugging some bra as she seemed to be perpetually clad in a manner where maximum cleavage was on display. Mamta Kulkarni, well, the less said about her the better. She made statements years ago as to how she would displace Manisha and hit the top spot. All hot air and you can see why none of that has come to fruition. She can try as hard as she wants but the girl just does not have it. Not only is she no beauty (that's sort of huge exaggeration), she appears to relish in a heavily made up tarty look regardless of scene or situation. Her appeal would possibly lie only with the front benchers, excited at her gyrations in the songs. Not to say that Manisha has not also sunk to an all time low in that regard and is no better than Mamta in any of her vulgar gyrations. Mamta has the bigger role and the film certainly does not benefit from it.

Raj Babbar's character is a complete waste of time. Navneet Nishan is totally camp in her role of evil step mother, something she must really relish. Aziz Sejawal's direction is simply awful…there appears to be no direction. Could it have been any worse? Anand Milind come up with a couple of fairly decent tunes but they are lost in this monstrosity of a movie. Hats off to the editor for making this shorter than your average flick so one has less to endure! One to avoid.
