Jinnah Market |
| :::Y-Sat,
Blue Bells, Skill, Libby's,
Electro Services |
|
:::
Deal in electrical
items, satellite instalation, general repair and stock everyday items
such as doorbells, plugs, extensions and even security cameras. There
are no guarantees but you may be able to salvage a piece of equipment
which may have been consigned to the rubbish heap elsewhere. You also
have to take into account that the newest technology takes just a bit
of time to make it to these shores and so stuff like MiniDisc and CD-R's
and DVD may be a bit problematic to have repaired. It doesn't take long
for the local electronics repairmen to catch on though.
|
| :::Videolink
|
| :::
Provides a
fair selection of pirates and Pulse Global prints and will be decent enough
to tell you if a print is particularly unwatchable as most pirate transfers
tend to be. They also have a growing number of DVDs for rent. |
| :::Off
Beat |
| :::
You'll find
a fair selection of mainstream Western music and of course the latest
Indian Film stuff as well though some perversion has meant that most have
this horrid electro drum beat added to the vocal track known as "jhankar
beat" which is best avoided. Most of the recorded tapes are "fast" recorded
and for people looking for quality sound recordings, you would be far
better off ordering on-line and receiving a non pirated genuine article.
|
| :::Book
Fair |
| :::
For
more generic reading material and stationery. Not the best selection of
books and containing a selection of magazines with an almost unhealthy
fascination with body building and computers. For office stationary, check
out Wasim Stationers (behind Afghan bakery) and try Book Nook for greeting
cards, though the selection is likely to consist of the tacky and the
hideously cutesy.

| :::Traditions |
| :::
Good leather
store which specialises in bags, wallets and briefcases. Leather is cheap
in Pakistan and while the quality and finish may not be of the highest
standard, it is more than presentable. Designs are generally copied from
foreign designers. They also have a few accessories such as key chains,
filo-faxes and notepads. |
| :::Chen
One |
| :::
A
multi purpose 'fabric' store which has a very reasonably priced range
of bed-sheets, covers, duvets, bathroom towels and mats. The quality is
good and the designs are usually copied from foreign catalogues. They
also stock a less impressive range of clothing.
|
| :::Florists
|
| :::
Opposite
the main entrance to Jinnah market you will also find a line of florists
all providing much the same variety of seasonal flowers at pretty much
the same prices. There are ranges of bouquets to choose from starting
at around Rs. 100 right through to the more elaborate and expensive designs.
The florists were dotted around the city until the Capital Development
Authority decided that they looked 'prettier' together! |
