:::China Town

::: Cuisine: Chinese ::: Location: Rana Market, F-7/2 ::: Price range: Rs. 200 per head
::: If all goes well, China Town probably offers the best Chinese cooking in Islamabad. But for those who wish to avoid the somewhat dingy surroundings and the risk of somewhat chaotic service, driving down to pick up a take-away meal from China Town makes a sensible (and delicious) alternative. :::Mezzo

A relatvely new entrant to the Islamabad food scene, Mezzo has risen quickly to become the best bet for continental food in the capital. All in all a classy affair. Read the full review...
:::Omar Khayyam
::: Cuisine: Iranian ::: Location: Blue Area ::: Price range: Rs. 250-300 per head
:::
One of the older restaurants in Islamabad and apart from the host of Chinese retaurants, probably the oldest 'foreign cusine' resaurants in the capital. Omar Khayyam has shown surprising staying power. Read the full review...
:::The Khokha (Sohawa Heights)

:::The Mess - IS NOW CLOSED
::: Cuisine: Pakistani ::: Location: Murree Road ::: Price range: Rs. 200 per head
:::
Interestingly decorated, with many interesting pseudo-antique pieces and extremely low lighting which creates a sinister, rather than romantic, affect. An excellent deal nonetheless. Read the full review...
:::Kitchen Cuisine
::: Cuisine: Cakes, cookies and other goodies ::: Location: Behind Jinnah Market ::: Price range: Rs. ??? per head
:::
A much better bet than buying the heavy and rather tasteless cake offerings available at the major bakeries. For those who do not have the patience to track down the women creating divine made-to-order cakes from their homes in Islamabad (they are several!), Kitchen Cuisine provides a fine alternative. :::Upper Crust
::: Cuisine: Sandwiches, snacks and hot food ::: Location: within Kitchen Cuisine, F-7 ::: Price range: Rs. 60 - 150 per head
:::
One of the best take-away outfits in the country. In a country used to downing heavy lunches, the introduction of the sandwich as an alternative meal is a welcome and brave initiative. Read the full review...
:::Istanbul Turkish Restaurant
::: Cuisine: Turkish ::: F- 8 ::: Price range: Rs. 150 - 250 per head
:::
Recently opened Turkish restaurant that fails to do justice to a good doner kebab - surely the benchmark and test of a good Turkish restaurant. At least, by opening a turkish restaurant in the capital we are taking a big step forward…..one should be thankful for small mercies - but this one is indeed a very small mercy with oodles of room for improvement. Maybe with time it will get better - it certainly needs to.
:::Kim Min
::: Cuisine: Chinese ::: Location: Jinnah Market ::: Price range: Rs. 150 - 250+ per head
:::
Small restaurant with has its loyal following. Stock Chinese menu is offered as in 99% of the local Chinese/Pakistani hybrid restaurants that we have here in Islamabad. We found this quite nice is a little bland.
:::ShiFang
::: Cuisine: Chinese ::: Location: Jinnah Market ::: Price range: Rs. 200 - 250+ per head
:::
Once the city's premier Chinese Restaurant, it seems to have fallen on hard times lately and thus the cut back in seating. Offers the stock regulation Chinese menu.
:::The Arizona Grill
::: Cuisine: Grill/Tex-Mex ::: Location: Laila Market F-7 ::: Price range: Rs.250+ per head
:::
Serves continental fare as well as grills. Reasonably popular restaurant with good service and pleasing décor. (Fairly Expensive)
:::The Golden Dragon
::: Cuisine: Chinese ::: Location: Gol Market F-7 ::: Price range: Rs. 250+ per head
:::
One of the oldest restaurants of the capital, it can be relied upon for providing decent fare on a regular basis. Run by the rare commodity, a Chinese-Pakistani family.
:::Bismillah Kulcha House
::: Cuisine: Naan (Bread) :::Medina Market F-8 ::: Price range: Rs. 4 - 25
:::
Offers a sublime variety of mouthwatering naan straight from the oven. Isn't really a full fledged restaurant and arguably shouldn't be in this section, but one of their divine chicken Naan's constitutes a pretty hefty meal in itself....therefor the entry in the restaurant section. Simply the most fantastic "gourmet" bread experience in Islamabad.
:::Quitanda Brasil
::: Cuisine: Brazilian :::Orders by Phone only ::: Price range: $2.50 - $15
:::
There's no seating and in fact no premesis as such, but through a phone call you can now have genuine Latin cuisine served on your own dinner table here in Islamabad. For a city that has zero diversity, this little enterprise is a very welcome addition to the local culinary scene.
